I know it's natural to wonder if Hypnobirthing will work for you, so first I wanted to break down what even IS HypnoBirthing??
HypnoBirthing is a method that acknowledges the nervous system’s integral role in pregnancy & birth.
It focuses on meditation, visualization, and deep breathing techniques to facilitate relaxation during pregnancy & birth because of the growing evidence that our bodies are brilliantly designed to stall labor (painful process) and delay birthing our babies when we feel unsafe.
Think about it. Who would want to bring a baby into the world in an environment that they don’t feel safe in? Think of our ancestors thousands of years ago sensing a tiger approaching during labor..
What would be safer for this family? For labor to temporarily stall until the tiger goes away and the threat is cleared? Or having no control and the baby slipping out and inevitably crying & alerting the tiger that it’s dinner time?
This is of course a silly and unrelatable example for us modern humans, but it encompasses the brilliance of our nervous system guiding the labor process through feelings of safety.
But what if our culture has programmed us all to feel scared of birth? What if the only births we’ve ever seen are the ones in movies where the woman is suffering with no dignity in a hospital bed with dozens of people trying to control her? What if the only birth stories we’ve heard are horror stories from our loved ones going into detail of how painful and horrible childbirth is?
This leaves our subconscious riddled with negative associations of birth that will inevitably affect our own labors if we leave these fears unaddressed.
This is what HypnoBirthing aims to address - the fear of childbirth that our culture has strategically instilled in us for the last hundred years.
Always remember that your nervous system anchoring you into safety during your birth requires you to practice being there for yourself over & over again during your pregnancy.
It requires you to trust in your body and trust in your biology. It requires you to trust in the unknown of how your unique labor & birth will unfold.
Magic happens when you start integrating the tools that work for you on a daily basis and intentionally set time apart to regulate your nervous system from the natural stressors of life.
The more you practice soothing your nervous system during pregnancy, the more your body is encouraged to secrete endorphins (our bodies natural pain killers with a morphine-like effect on the body) during birth.
During pregnancy, you have all this time to practice your skills when life gets uncomfortable. When you feel aches & pains, feel sadness, anger, stub your toe (lol), feeling impatient, and so on.. All of this is amazing practice of you being there for yourself and centering yourself using your breath and your powerful mindset.
